About Mark Peel
After Harrow and Edinburgh University, where he read History, Mark Peel taught History and Politics at Fettes between 1983 and 2007.
Mark created the Political Society at Fettes School in 1983. He hosted the society through to 2006 and in that time was successful in engaging a host of influential speakers & panellists. Mark also ran the History Society at Fettes School from 1983 to 2002 persuading many leading historians to speak at the school.
A keen biographer, his first book, England Expects, A Life of Ken Barrington, won the Cricket Society Literary Award for the best cricket book of the year. He followed this with biographies of the England cricketers, Colin Milburn and Colin Cowdrey, the maverick headmaster, Anthony Chenevix-Trench, the Methodist minister and pacifist, Donald Soper, the former Labour minister and co-founder of the SDP, Shirley Williams, and Mike Brearley, one of England’s most renowned captains.
